Discover My Book: Studying Abroad – An Overview of International Education

Studying Abroad: An Overview of International Education is an inspiring account by Pedro Parmezani, a young scientist and former collegiate soccer captain in the United States, who shares his journey from the countryside of São Paulo to American universities. Blending personal experiences with up-to-date insights on international education, Pedro reflects on the challenges and achievements of studying abroad, exploring themes such as identity, resilience, and belonging. With sensitivity and authenticity, he reveals how he overcame cultural barriers and transformed sports, science, and education into pathways to connect with the world.

The book goes beyond a personal narrative — it serves as a practical guide for Brazilian students who dream of studying overseas. It includes statistics, interviews, information on scholarship programs, universities, and planning tips, while also revealing lesser-known aspects of life abroad. More than just a personal story, the work is an invitation to courage and preparation for those who wish to broaden their horizons through international education.

Global Perspective and Social Impact

Beyond academics and athletics, I have always been dedicated to social causes. I volunteered at an orphanage in Campinas, Brazil, participated in a Water Sustainability Awareness Project in Florida, and contributed to the Adopt-A-Highway environmental initiative in West Virginia. These experiences strengthened my belief in purposeful work and environmental responsibility.

My global perspective is also a cornerstone of my journey. I am fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and have been actively involved in international student organizations. I believe today’s challenges demand multicultural collaboration—an approach that helps me design solutions grounded in the world’s real complexity. Engineering problems do not exist in isolation; they impact people, cultures, and interconnected systems.

Talk: Focus, Discipline, and Determination

Returning to the International School of Alphaville was an emotional experience—not only because I got to reconnect with teachers and friends who shaped my journey, but also because I had the opportunity to share my story with the students walking the same halls I once did.

Speaking about focus, discipline, and determination in such a meaningful place of my education was more than just giving a talk—it was a genuine exchange filled with questions, curiosity, and energy. I truly hope to have planted seeds of inspiration and courage in each of the students who attended.
