I am a Research Scientist from Brazil and a former NCAA Division II collegiate athlete, currently based in the United States. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics with a minor in Mathematics from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude and received multiple academic honors, including the Outstanding Achievement in Physics/Engineering Award and the Senior Academic and Leadership Achievement Award. As a SURE Grant recipient, I conducted research in nuclear physics focusing on gamma-ray attenuation and material optimization.

Professional Profile

Beyond academics, I had the privilege of serving as captain of my college’s soccer team, working as a Resident Assistant, and holding the position of Vice President of the International Student Organization. Fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, I bring a global perspective, strong leadership skills, and a deep commitment to innovation in systems. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Systems Engineering, with a focus on systems optimization, logistics, and engineering for large-scale impact.

BOOK: Studying Abroad – An Overview of International Education

Studying Abroad: An Overview of International Education is an inspiring account by Pedro Parmezani, a young scientist and former collegiate soccer captain in the United States, who shares his journey from the countryside of São Paulo to American universities. Blending personal experiences with up-to-date insights on global education, Pedro reflects on the challenges and achievements of studying abroad, exploring themes such as identity, resilience, and belonging. With sensitivity and authenticity, he reveals how he overcame cultural barriers and transformed sports, science, and education into paths for connecting with the world.

The book goes beyond a personal narrative—it also serves as a practical guide for Brazilian students who dream of studying overseas. It features statistics, interviews, information on scholarship programs, universities, and planning tips—while also shedding light on lesser-known aspects of life away from home. More than a personal story, the book is an invitation to courage and preparation for those seeking to broaden their horizons through international education.
